If admin has no rights, who does?!

Posted:17 Oct 2008 (07:52 UTC)
Greetings,
I've installed the latest version of BW
(R2 checked out from CVS) 4 times. The install
always proceeds without errors, and indicates
all requirements/recommendations are met. But
when logged in as admin. The admin has NO rights
except to change his own settings. The admin
can not administer the site. Is my BW site
owned by the administrators of bitweaver.org?!
Must I get them to make the changes, because
they are the actual administrators?

()

Thanks to anyone who can answer this.
I have read and searched the entire BW
site. But there are no answers to this.

Thank you again.

I continued re-installing:
drop all tables from database, delete BW directory,
unpacking a fresh copy, deleting all cookies/cache/history from browser. Then starting
the install again. I turned up the verbosity of the
PHP error reporting. There appears to be a good
many issues in the code, as well as a couple of MySQL
errors reported. But every time I log on as admin,
I'm listed as Administrator, and can edit my
preferences. But can NOT administer the site:

Permission denied.

You do not have the required permissions to manage users groups and permissions and all aspects of site management.

I guess someone else has those rights. But not the
owner of the web site/server. ()

Will there be a version that allows the owner of the
software and hardware to have control of the BW installation? I gotta tell ya; I don't understand the purpose of BW at all.

Thank you for all your time and consideration.

Bitweaver is currently between releases. If you install a Release Candidate, there are more flaws as well as more features than in the final release, same if you check out from CVS.

If you get an error, please post it/them here in this forum, or report them in the IRC channel #bitweaver on freenode.org, or file a bug report on sf.net, so that somebody can help you.

The error "You do not have the required permissions to manage users groups and permissions and all aspects of site management" means that you are not logged in as an administrator. It does not mean that anybody else has control over your site or something like that. It only means, that the admin, who would have the control, is not logged in - or that Bitweaver is not aware of it.

If Bitweaver is not aware of the fact that you are the admin, it could be because of a cookie issue. This could be a starting point.

Greetings, and thank you for your reply.
You are correct. After making my last post regarding my problem, I decided to try the already packed version
from sourceforge. The install went smoothly, and there were no problems administrating the site as admin. I used the CVS version, as the wiki indicated that checking out HEAD would provide the same version as supplied in the packed version. Apparently that information is a bit dated. ()

Anyway, everything appears to be working as expected now. ()

Thank you again for taking the time to respond. ()
