Can't delete files because owner/group changed
Posted:Mon 23 of Nov, 2009 (19:59 UTC)Hi, I can't delete the directories /storage and /temp of my old 2.6 bitweaver installation. I get a "permission denied" error when I try to do so. While I access the webspace as user w76hg99, the group and owner of those directories (and all included files) have changed to www-data, what I suspect to be the apache user of the server. How do I get rid of these files and how do I prevent this to happen again? Best regards.

If they are not allowing you to change the permissions on the directories, they will have to do it for you. I have a 'root' login to remote machines, so I can simply delete things.

It's unacceptable that functions like shell_exec have to be enabled for bitweaver to run properly, although this function is disabled for security reasons on most shared hosting servers. I can't use the galleries feature to upload zip-files e.g. because shell_exec is disabled on my server, which pretty much ruins the whole gallery system for me, as I got about 1300 photos in my old gallery which I would like to transfer to bitweaver. And it's unacceptable that bitweaver lets the apache user create files, which afterwards can't be deleted by the user himself (again assuming that you are on a shared hosting server).
If bitweaver is a software specifically and purposely meant for owners of a (virtual) server, who do have root access, then this should be listed in the software requirements if nothing else.
