{quote format_guid="bbcode" comment_id="4790" user="gilesw"}I just thought I'd list my initial thoughts after visiting the bitweaver site and browsing for a couple of hours, idea being that this is how the project appears to a newbie. Site Look ----------- 1. Website is way too shades of gray and the text is too crowded and not tied in by dividers, maybe it looks better above 1024x768 though. I'm sorry to say it but http://plone.org is so easy on the eye in comparison. text size in the columns is too small and number of posts is too much. 2.Shaded top right and lower left angles don't look good especially with the bitweaver logo being covered! Download icon is for the release is huge. 3.Fancy site search dotted line is confusing and the fancy transperant menu drop downs aren't readable, just feels like gimicks, gulp. 4.Really love the wiki style and all the documents I've read have been interesting and informative great selling! 5.I couldn't seem to find a list of the developers, i tried searching... i finally found it in the overall docs, but it took a while. This spider guy seems to be the genius behind a lot of it, what happens if he gets run over by a bus? Technical ------------ 1. I know I've been a newbie and it's all well documented but getting hold the cvs snapshots should be simpler, maybe just a link underneath the release one. I tried getting it via cvs from sf but i got an error all yesterday input/output, it's working now though. 2. I ran some site searchs and they seem to take ages, maybe it's just a case that the site is huge and the hardware is all that can be afforded. 3. Why don't you like plone? I can see them as a major competitor but with the restriction of python on webservers many people won't even be able to try it out. But it's probably better to confront the competition rather then discount it without saying why. 4. Looking at mambo they have a strong focus on 3rd party packages and contributions their management, even more focus than the actual core! I can see from the forums that lots of people contribute to bitweaver but it wasn't obvious at first and i completely missed the packages link, it practically blends into the background. I've been working with oscommerce quite a lot and their support site is fantastic. The simple upload for contributions really encourages non technical users to contribute. All the best, g.{/quote}
