{quote format_guid="bbcode" comment_id="5109" user="StarRider"}There are several forms of paragraph indentation that are useful in certain circumstances. [color=white:8b49d58976].......[/color:8b49d58976]A First Line Indent is the "Normal" writing method used by most people. I have had to correct many pages where an author added spaces to the beginning of a line in an attempt to create a First Line Indent. Unfortunately - the added spaces making the paragraph monospaced and extend the right column a mile. A first line indent looks like this paragraph (without the leading periods). [color=white:8b49d58976]..............[/color:8b49d58976]A First Line Indent at the second (or third) level would look something like this. [color=white:8b49d58976].......[/color:8b49d58976]I forced another line here. A Block Indent looks like the following: [color=white:8b49d58976].....[/color:8b49d58976]In a block indent the first line as well as the turnover [color=white:8b49d58976].....[/color:8b49d58976]lines are indented, as in this example (first level). [color=white:8b49d58976].........[/color:8b49d58976]In a nested block indent, the indentation is increased, [color=white:8b49d58976].........[/color:8b49d58976]indicating less importance (second level). A hanging indent would also be terrifically useful: In a hanging indent, the first line is not indented; however, [color=white:8b49d58976].....[/color:8b49d58976]second and subsequent lines (called turnover lines in [color=white:8b49d58976].....[/color:8b49d58976]typography) are indented. This format is widely used for [color=white:8b49d58976].....[/color:8b49d58976]bibliographic citations. This could be accomplished using a 2 character syntax in the first position. Example: -> First Line Indent - Level 1 --> First Line Indent - Level 2 ---> First Line Indent - Level 3 -| Block Indent - Level 1 --| Block Indent - Level 2 ---| Block Indent - Level 3 -\ Hanging Indent - Level 1 --\ Hanging Indent - Level 2 ---\ Hanging Indent - Level 3{/quote}
