{quote format_guid="bbcode" comment_id="5112" user="StarRider"}Just saw this again - forgot about it to be honest. One of the best implementations of a Karma System I've seen is on the Forum Site [http://www.eng-tips.com/] which runs literally hundreds of general and speciality Forums. Their polling system is now nothing more than 2 links at the bottom of every post. 1- Thank WhoEver for this valuable post! 2- Inappropriate post? If so, Red Flag it! There are several things that make their system worth while but it all hinges on their fact that the User's Profile with the Karma Information is readilly available to anybody who wants it. That includes - Threads Started / Total Replies / FAQs Written / Votes Received / and Votes Given for each of the Forums the Author belongs to. This provides a means of identifing how active the Author is on the site/forum and what other people think of his advise. The site actively encourages this by showing the Forums "TipMaster of the Week" on each home page & a module showing the highest scorers for the week. They also have a hall of fame. Naturally - Inappropriate posts are routed to someone with higher privelages who can / will move a post to a different forum / kill the post / send them a nasty email / or implement banning (worst case) For us - I think that each package would need to have it's own data collection mechinism. That would allow the Forums to have Totals for Threads/Posts by Forum while the Wiki could report Pages per Category. The kernel could also report on the users activity - Times logged in / hours spent online / date of last visit / date of last contribution. The Users package is the obvious place to display the information. That would allow the admin to turn on/off Karma reporting for each package. Most of that information is already provided on the UsersPage in Modules. Only a couple of things are missing. They are User Activity and a star rating on the contribution the user has made. From an Admins standpoint - I think it all boils down to User Participation. Anything we do that increases User Participation is a bonus and giving a User a Warm and Fuzzy fealing by seeing 4 or 5 stars next to their work (or beside the link to their name) would only increase their willingness to contribute. Comments are great (especially positive ones) :D but they involve a lot more effort than a simple click. Finally - I do like the competition angle. :D [/url]{/quote}
