Comparing versions
Version 1Current version
Using this package you can assign categories to any object on the site, allowing for grouping of similar objects. It is also possible to allocate specific themes to categories.

General Description

Using Categories Pacakge is a way to classify Bitweaver content objects (like blogs, image galleries, articles, polls, forums, wiki pages, file galleries and so on). Users with appropriate permissions can define an unlimited, hierarchically organized set of categories which can function like a table of contents for the whole site. Any object can then be added to one or many categories. Users can then browse by category. Depending on the settings, category listings can be displayed in a side module, above or below the content.

Ideally, permissions could be applied to categories so that objects in a certain category can only be seen by designated user groups. "Permissions to Categories" is not possible in Bitweaver version 1.3. However, it is possible with the alternative categorization system Pigeonholes Package.

Categories Package has been largely replaced by the newer and better PigeonholesPackage, possibly combined with ProtectorPackage. Other means to sort content include:
  • WikiPackage (alias Wiki Books) are like categories specific to the Wiki Package.
  • ArticlesPackage are like categories specific to the Articles Package.
  • bitweaverArchitecture are the customizable boxes on the left, right, bottom, and top of the main content area.
  • NexusPackage are usually placed in modules.
